Being stuck in the godforsaken desert is Adrian Blake's worst nightmare come true. Senior year is all about making fun memories. It's not about starting over at a new school and navigating a new Brady Bunch family. It's really not about living with a sexy, arrogant would-be stepbrother who knows how to push her buttons.

Alex Montgomery is the very definition of a player. The only thing he commits to is a one night stand. He's exactly the kind of guy she hates. When she sleeps with him, it's the biggest mistake of her life. Now she can’t stop thinking about him. Not at school. Not at home.

But sometimes the best mistakes are the ones that you make over and over again...

And so, Reason and Romance sets the stage for the River Valley series.

Here's the thing - I don't typically go for this story construct. I used to, and that's how I originally found Reason and Romance on In the hands of a lesser writer, I could understand writing this book off as a run-of-the-mill, cliché story. But Jenn Young (or Myrika for fictionpress veterans) is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to words.

The battle of wills that Adrian and Alex establish is fascinating. They both have these cold, calculating minds that overlay a searing passion within. Being as it's from Adrian's point of view, we get to see in the narrative both of these traits in her. But Alex is a different story - you have to search for his heart. And I think it's that element that makes their dynamic so interesting.

What makes this story so special is the characters - Adrian, Alex, Quentin, Grant, Justin, Travis, Vaughn, the whole River Valley gang. These characters stand the test of time, each one unique and vibrant in his/her own way. I first read Adrian's story about six years ago, and to this day I still think about them, I still love them, I still want to read this story over and over again.

Reason and Romance is a solid, clever, fresh take on the time worn Pride-and-Prejudice-esque type of story. You don't want to miss this one, or any other Jenn Young novel! Look out for the sequel, The Only Reason, coming in 2015.
